In-School

A major component of the YES! Coalition’s abstinence education is done in classroom settings. The student-centered, interactive lessons affirm a student’s ability to postpone sexual involvement and to build loving, healthy relationships that do not include sexual intercourse, and to avoid high-risk behaviors that may result in pregnancy, HIV and other STDs.

Time Requirements:
The programming must consist of at least 14 hours of abstinence education in the classroom, and can be provided over the course of one quarter (marking period) to a semester.

Curriculum:
Multiple, research-based curriculums are provided that may be chosen by the school and educator. Our intent is to not duplicate programming in the YES! Club, or in subsequent years of in-school instruction, therefore justifying the need for various curriculums.

Evaluations:
Linked pre-post surveys, with t-test, will be used to measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, behaviors (both current and intended for the future) and skills of students. Satisfaction surveys will also be used to evaluate parents, teacher and youth participants.
